Crescamus Past Master Exalted into Holy Royal Arch

Wednesday 22nd February saw Worshipful Brother Rob, a Past Master of Crescamus Lodge join the Holy Royal Arch. Coming 20 years after his Initiation into Freemasonry it was truly a case of better late than never!

The Holy Royal Arch

The Royal Arch is the continuation of Craft Freemasonry. It’s members, called Companions, meet in Chapters. The term “Companion” is from the Latin. “Companio” from the late Latin means “one who eats bread with another”, derived from “com” meaning “with” and “panis” meaning “bread”.

W. Bro. Rob was Exalted into Royal Standard Chapter No. 1298, of which three other members of Crescamus are members. He was joined on the evening by other members of Crescamus to witness the occasion.

To join the Holy Royal Arch, you must be a Master Mason of one month’s standing. The admission of a Master Mason into the Royal Arch (more correctly the Holy Royal Arch of Jerusalem) is the ceremony of Exaltation, which is in two parts. The first is a dramatic presentation of the principles of the Order and is followed by three lectures explaining the history, symbolism and principles of Royal Arch Freemasonry. It is a beautiful, colourful and dramatic ceremony.

Unlike Craft Freemasonry, the Holy Royal Arch has three Principals who conjointly rule over the Chapter. They are the First Principal also known as Most Excellent Zerubbabel, the Second Principal known as Excellent Companion Haggai, and the Third Principal known as Excellent Companion Joshua.

Talking Heads

Worshipful Brother Rob’s interest in the Holy Royal Arch was piqued following a presentation of Talking Heads at Crescamus Lodge in Croydon in October 2016. Talking Heads introduces the Holy Royal Arch to the new Master Mason or re-introduces the Order to Craft Freemasons who may have been members but who found it difficult to understand or those for whom it did not “click”. It is hoped that more members will follow Worshipful Brother Rob’s lead in joining Chapters.

We all wish him the very best for his career in the Holy Royal Arch and Royal Standard Chapter.
